A big blow to Swindon. Workers at BMW are probably worrying too.

Oh, those aren’t the scary ones.
The scary ones are all the banks and financial institutions activating their contingency plans.

And these are the ones that make the news. The multinationals might get some government bungs as encouragement, that won’t be open to SMEs. Plenty of those on the edge already.

Yep, It might be a failure in the sense that Brexit was supposed to help these sorts of jobs (using fantasy logic), but What’s really going to mess up the British economy is if the banks have to decamp from London to Amsterdam , Dublin , or wherever.

They’re already doing this . Non-resident EU employees are being moved to EU countries or simply let go. Any operations they can move outside the UK, are being moved. Because they’re banks, it’s being done in a VERY controlled fashion, one small piece at a time.
They’ve already moved or eliminated more than 2,00 0 jobs from the UK and the conservative estimates for no-deal are more than 10,000. BofA has already moved all operations to Dublin and told most of their UK resident employees they don’t have a job any more .
But the big date to watch is February 22 . Friday. That’s when the supreme civil court of Scotland rules on RBS’ application to move more than 30% of their assets to Amsterdam. Banks coordinate moves like this and operate in a herd fashion; RBS being Scotland domiciled and nationally visible is serving as the test case to establish legality. If the court says yes on Friday? By Monday, EVERY Scotland domiciled bank will be telling their clients that they are moving ALL their assets to an EU country. Because at this point, it is nakedly obvious to their risk managers that it’s going to be a no-deal exit.

Yeah, the old “It’s not you, it’s me”. Nobody ever believed that.
